Assassin’s Creed Valhalla arrived through rivers’ waters after traveling through the turbulence of cities in which many legendary battles took place. It’s here after two years of Odyssey, the last installment of the series. With great boldness, onboard the Vikings ships, here’s a new title bringing a new story to the Assassin’s Creed world that will never stop going back in time.

This time, the series returns in its latest installment to the days of the Vikings during their conquest of England. In the game, you are playing as Eivor, a Viking warrior. Given that Assassin’s Creed’s latest chapter falls on a period of time based on plunder and conquest, it is not surprising that it is more aggressive and chaotic than the previous titles.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Review

It shouldn’t surprise fans of the game that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s is the best graphic game in the franchise’s history; it’s quite expected. But the good thing for fans of the series is that this graphic development has helped the game introduce new styles and aspects that are very important to the progression of this time period. The result we’ll see in Valhalla is epic, and just as the developer designed it to be.

Gameplay

In Valhalla, sometimes you’ll find that the gameplay has reverted to the classic combat we found in Assassin’s Creed II. At the same time, other times, you’ll experience a completely different fighting style. There’s also the sense of humor and some silliness that has been missing since Black Flag. It’s great to see that Ubisoft has embraced this disparity between the seriousness of the game and some of the fun needed in any game.

Valhalla’s open-world content is clearly intentional, and better yet, purposeful. Aside from the abundance of collectibles you can get from the houses and boxes around the tents; you won’t find any unnecessary tasks or missions. One of the interesting things in the game is the puzzles that have replaced the side missions that we usually see in open-world games. Instead of searching for people, stealing, or fighting thieves, these missions are based on well-written stories, which can present you with fun and sometimes funny challenges.

This kind of side missions adds a fun character to the game, which is supposed to be serious with everything it contains. It seems that Ubisoft, as we mentioned earlier, is trying to combine in between the epic gameplay methods and some fun now and then. This will offer the players some fun if they choose to stay away from the main story for a bit. They can search for rare spoils and solve some problems, which they will not feel obligated to finish, but will find themselves doing it anyway, because – as we talked – it is well written. This added a new flavor to the characters and game world.

While some battles might seem so easy, as you face many weak soldiers and get rid of them very quickly,  you will face some enemies and situations that will force you to return and search for another path. This might happen because of the long battle you have to go through to win such fights or because you are not equipped with the proper weapons to give an advantage over your enemy. This will force you to practice your fighting skills throughout the game and work harder to get all the weapons and tools you need to win any fight.

Ravensthorpe is the place where you can regain your strength and get many resources as well. However, most of your time will be spent exploring the awesome game world, which contains many wonderful and dazzling attractions. Although this world that introduced us to England in the ninth century does not contain the splendor of the ancient Greek cities or those that the game presented to us in the past in Egypt, it is still full of secrets and wonderful scenes. You will also spend some time in Norway, the Vikings’ home, where Assassin’s Creed Valhalla can dazzle you with its beauty and distinctive graphics.

I will not spoil the story’s experience, but the narration that will simulate the details of this story has been cleverly worked on. The story is divided into several locations where the main character, “Eivor,” tries to make friends in many different regions. The narration will not affect your freedom in the game, as you will still be free to do any interesting tasks and side stories you choose to. All this falls under the goal of flourishing the Raven Clan.

Eivor isn’t the kind of person who gets too talkative, but you can pick some lines to make choices or to uncover some secrets. But the good thing here is that you will not get into long unimportant conversations, which maintains the rapid story that will take you some time to finish.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is a new and fun experience for players. Although we can find some similarities with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the game still has its own identity as an Assassin’s Creed game that any fan of the series will enjoy.
