DK-2001 Is Dunu’s Latest Hybrid IEM

Dunu is one of my favorite IEM manufacturers ever since I got to review the DK-3001. What was most apparent to me is they they had a tight grip on the concept of making IEMs that just sound great. However, Dunu’s best IEMs are not exactly what you’d call affordable, seeing as they easily cost north of $ 400. To fill the gap between their more premium IEMs and their more affordable models, the DK-2001 has been introduced.

The DK-2001 features a design which looks rather similar to its more expensive siblings, and even sports a driver configuration which is similar to the aforementioned DK-3001. What we have here is a quad-driver setup which consists of a single dynamic driver alongside three Knowles balanced armature drivers. The dynamic driver in particular is said to feature a Dual-Sided PVD Beryllium Coating which apparently improves the performance of the driver.

What looks very interesting and quite different to what we’d normally find on a set of IEMs is what appears to be a small grille on the outer housing. This suggests that the DK-2001 might just have a semi-open design. If this is the case, then the DK-2001 might very well also have a sound characteristic that audio-lovers often crave for – an expanded soundstage. Due to the design of IEMs and how they need to create a seal within the ear-canal, what you can end up with is an occlusion effect or even the sensation that the music is playing entirely within the confines of your head (which, technically , it would be) and this doesn’t sound particularly natural. So, it’ll be interesting to see what kind of tricks Dunu have got up their sleeves if the DK-2001 is indeed of a semi-open design.

The DK-2001 has been officially released and can be purchased from various online retailers / distributors at an MSRP of $ 299.
