Etymotic Announces Etymotion BT for ER-series

Whilst Etymotic has been solely focused on creating numerous iterations of their patented IEM design over the last couple of decades, the fact remains that a company will simply have to adapt in order to stay alive and relevant. Today’s world is moving ever closer to a wireless utopia, and as such we’ve seen many manufacturers attempt to implement wireless audio tech into their products in many different ways. Thus far, Etymotic have been slow to inter the wireless market, but it seems they’ve finally got a product ready to go, and it’s called the Etymotion.

In terms of the concept behind the Etymotion, there’s nothing radically new here. What you get here is a housing which contains the battery, wireless transmitter(s), an internal digital to analogue converter, a volume control, and on each side it’s terminated with an MMCX connector. It’s essentially the same idea as the Bluetooth cable that was released from Shure a few months ago. It’s a cost effective solution for both Etymotic and people whom already own a set of Etymotic IEMs because rather than having to purchase a completely new set of IEMs, all that’s required is for the user to detach the regular MMCX cable, and then hook up their IEMs to the Etymotion. 

According to Etymotion, a couple of the Etymotion’s specs include:
– Bluetooth 5.0 with AptX, AptX HD, AptX LL
– Dedicated AKM DAC with built-in Headphone Amplifier
– Built-in 3 button Mic Pod for playback control and phone calls
– Awareness Mode
– Compatible with most MMCX earphones
– 8+ hour battery life
– 30 foot range

Official pricing for the standalone Etymotion and various IEM models that include the Etymotion are yet to be released, but Etymotic did state that it should hit the market within Q1 of 2020.
