FiiO Releases Firmware V0.39 for Q5s

As is usually the case for newer products, especially ones the feature some sort of software-based control, there can be certain bugs and other teething problems that need to be ironed out. FiiO’s latest portable DAC/Amp, the Q5s, is no different, but it seems that FiiO’s engineers have been hard at work to sort out a few hiccups, and have thus released firmware V0.39 for the device to address a few issues.

According to FiiO, firmware update V0.39 brings the following fixes and changes:
1. Added the support of DSD512;
2. Fixed issue where the DSD output opposite channel in USB DAC mode;
3. Fixed the issue where the input button of Q5s may need to be pressed several times for waking up the Q5s;
4. Improved the DAC configuration;
5. Miscellaneous bug fixes.

As we can see, the first point enhances the functionality of the Q5s, whereas the following two points aim to sort out the system stability. The last two points are pretty vague, but those would usually entail some sort of stability fix.
In order to install firmware V0.39 onto your Q5s, you will need to first download the firmware from this link. You will also need to have the USB DAC driver installed into your PC, as well as the firmware upgrade tool. If you don’t currently have both of those, then you’ve probably never performed a firmware update to the Q5s. But, fret not, DAC driver can be found here, whereas this link will download the firmware upgrade tool.
If you have indeed never performed such an update, then you’ll need to follow these instructions provided by FiiO. It’s a downloadable PDF, and so you don’t need to be connected to the web to perform the actual update to the Q5s.
Just be sure to follow the instructions carefully and all should go according to plan.
