Hidizs Announces Upcoming AP80 DAP

The Hidizs AP200 has been getting some rather mixed reviews once it was finally made available. After lengthy delays in the production and broken promises by Hidizs, it seems that the AP200 still suffers from quite a few software bugs. It seems strange then , that a company would pour their resources into coming up with a new product, rather than fixing the current one that actually needs their attention. Oh well, apparently that’s not something that makes sense to Hidizs, and so they’ve announced some details on their upcoming player – the AP80.

What’s with the AP80?

After Shanling announced their upcoming super-mini M0 player, it seems Hidizs was quick to jump in and design a competitive product. Well, judging from the specs, various aspects seems similar, except for the size. It seems that the AP80 won’t be quite as compact as the M0.

However, the similarities extend to a touch interface (2.45″ in the case of the AP80). Hidizs will also be using the same DAC chip as the M0 in the form of the ES9128P from Sabre. Even the estimated 15-hours of battery-life is the same for both devices, as is a bi-directional USB-C interface and Bluetooth connection. Although, the M0 has a Bluetooth 4.1 chip, as opposed to the Bluetooth 4.0 chip in the AP80. The M0 is also capable of transmitting the LDAC Bluetooth format, whereas Hidizs has not confirmed the same to be true for the AP80. Hidizs did opt to include an FM radio into the AP80.

However, one change that Hidizs went for is to include a pedometer. Now, the need for a step-counter on your DAP isn’t something that’ll appeal to most people, especially considering that you probably wouldn’t be able to sync it up to your favourite fitness-related app.
