iOS 15: Everything You Need To Know

At its annual WWDC developer conference, Apple offered the first look at the upcoming iOS 15 operating system that will be coming to iPhone users later this year. iOS 15 will offer plenty of updates, most notably some changes that are coming to notifications, iMessage, and FaceTime. 

Starting with FaceTime, which is getting a few new features including Apple spatial audio and voice isolation which will help users to have a more natural conversation and reduce background noise. Users will also be able to blur their backgrounds and share music and videos during calls. Android users will finally have the chance to participate in FaceTime calls through a sharable link that allows them to open the call in the browser. 

iMessages are also getting a few updates in iOS 15. Senders will be able to see if the receiver has Do Not Disturb mode on, they will also have the option to turn it off for urgent messages. Another update will now group photos sent in messages in collages, the photos will also now appear in the gallery and memories.

While iOS 14 introduced new widgets to iPhone, iOS 15 is updating notifications. Text notifications will include contact photos, and app icons are getting bigger. New filter modes will also be available in iOS 15. This allows users to decide which notifications they receive during different activities like work or workouts. The new modes will also allow users to group notifications and receive a full summary at certain times during the day. 

On the privacy front, Apple announced that iOS 15 will start processing all Siri requests and queries fully on-device. The new operating system will also offer users a 7-day summary privacy report for every app, the report will show how often the app accessed location information, camera, or mic in the past week. 

iPhone users will be able to search text in photos through a new feature called LiveText. Apple Wallet is also getting a few updates that will allow it to serve as hotel room keys, and store important personal information.

Other updates include the weather app which will display more information and full maps. Maps is also getting an update offering more details in major cities, and a 3D city driving view when using navigation. 

Apple announced that iOS 15 will be released this fall for iPhone 6s and newer iPhones. Developers will get a beta version starting today, while the general public will get the beta version next month.
