KEF and Porsche Design Team Up to Build Seriously Stunning Audio Gear

Original news from Here.

KEF isn’t as well-known as Apple or Bang & Olufsen, but the British audio company has a similar reputation: It makes design-minded products that look just as good as they perform. The company’s massive Muon speakers, which cost close to $200,000 and look as if they’re sculpted out of mercury, are among the best speakers on this planet—even if they look like they come from another one.

Luckily, KEF also makes more affordable (but still excellent) gear. There are the fetching Egg wireless desktop speakers, the slick LS50 monitors, and super-comfy M500 headphones. And now, thanks to a collaboration with Porsche Design, it has a new trio of eye-catching goodies that look like they were teleported from the future.

The gorgeous Space One noise-cancelling headphones are like super-sized versions of the M500s. They have 40mm drivers and feature a durable aluminum skeleton wrapped in faux leather on the headband and earcups. They also provide active noise cancellation that lasts for 50 hours on a single AAA battery. Porsche Design collaborated with KEF on the original M500s, although that particular pair of cans wasn’t co-branded. This new model sports the Porsche Design branding as well, and the premium pair of over-ears will set you back $420.

There’s also a new unibody aluminum Bluetooth speaker the company says is “designed for sophisticated executives,” but any normal schmo with $380 to spare can also buy it. The Gravity One blasts sound out in all directions with shrunken-down versions of the Uni-Q drivers found in its much-more-expensive speakers. KEF also touts an ample low-end thanks to a pair of bass radiators that push air out of its double-overhang design. The portable speaker runs about 10 hours on a single charge of its battery, and it offers both Bluetooth with AptX and 3.5mm-in connectivity (provided your phone still has a headphone jack).

And although they look far too nice to sweat all over, the $250 Motion One wireless earbuds are IPX5-rated to withstand gym workouts and rainstorms. In a clever design touch, the aluminum earpiece housings can swivel, so you can loop the cords over your ears or under them. The earphones snap together magnetically for tangle-free toting, and the Bluetooth-only ‘buds give you 10 hours of listening time per charge.
