Meet Dragonfire’s Mini Dragon 2.1 System

Dragonfire Audio‘s latest system is a step up from their regular $5,000 Mini Dragon Satellite desktop speaker system as it now boasts the addition of a 180W subwoofer capable of hitting those low 30Hz frequencies along with the MD-4 DAC/AMP/DSP engine.

The subwoofer is specifically designed to have a high frequency cutoff at 200Hz in order to blend in seamlessly with the tuning of the Mini Dragon Satellite speakers.

In case you’re unfamiliar with what those satellite speakers are – these are Dragonfire’s 2-channel planar magnetic near-field monitors which feature Dragonfire’s own proprietary double-sided magnet arrays which are capable of achieving the highest induction in the industry at 1.8 Tesla. These 80W RMS (200W max.) speakers are also capable of hitting an SPL of up to 120dB (measured 1m away), and will reproduce frequencies as low as 30Hz and as high as 50kHz.

When you then throw in the subwoofer into the mix you get a much richer experience. As mentioned, whilst the regular satellite speakers can go as low as 30Hz, you’re really not going to have a much punch, and that’s where the subwoofer comes in. Tasking a much larger driver to the low frequencies will achieve a more accurate reproduction of the entire audio spectrum.

But hold your horses, whilst Dragonfire recommends you to also purchase their MD-4 Amplifier (which is a combined class-D DAC/AMP/DSP engine) to go along with the Mini Dragon speakers, the MD-4 is included as part of the Mini Dragon 2.1 system.

Pricing

So, if the regular 2-channel system will set you back $5,000, what will a 2.1 system cost you? Well, double. Yup, a cool $10,000 is the price-tag attached to the Dragonfire Mini Dragon 2.1 system.

However, if you do happen to visit RMAF 2018 you could pickup the entire package (which consists of the 2-channel speakers, the MD-4 Amplifier engine, subwoofer, and upgrade cables) for “just” $7500.
