Nothing Ear 1 earbuds have officially been revealed

As many already know, when the co-founder of OnePlus Carl Pei left the company, he announced his new tech startup Nothing. Despite its unusual name, Nothing immediately teased its first-ever product: earbuds with a transparent housing. Now, many teasers and concept images later, Nothing Ear 1 earbuds have officially launched. Here is everything you need to know.

Let’s start with the design. As expected, the housing is made of transparent plastic that gives us some insight into the internal setup of each bud. The charging case matches that design, but some of the internals are sectioned off and cannot be seen. The case has an indent on the lid that makes it quite comfortable to hold in your hand and even fidget with it, while the two intents inside are color-coordinated with each bud so that there is no confusion.

Teenage Engineering was not only in on the hardware, but software too. The earbuds offer ANC, supported by three microphones on each earbud. The buds have gesture controls that can be personalized using the compatible app. To connect them to a phone you would need Bluetooth 5.2, while some Android devices support fast pairing too. You can expect almost 6 hours of playback time at a single charge, or up to 34 hours if you count on the charging case too. Do keep in mind that this estimate is with the ANC off, so if you rely on the active noise canceling feature the battery life will total up to 24 hours. Oh, and have we mentioned they are also IPX4 water-resistant?

Nothing Ear 1 earbuds are going to be available for sale starting on the 17th of August 2021, and will be available in 45 countries across the globe. The price has also been announced: $99 for a pair.
