Onkyo launches 2 new smart speakers during IFA 2017

Onkyo has not given up its place on the Smart Speakers Race track, the recent war between Silicon Valley companies. The company launched two new smart speakers at the IFA 2017 conference in Berlin, Germany.

Onkyo P3 Features

  • Wireless Smart Speaker
  • Amazon Personal Assistant “Alexa”
  • Cylindrical Design
  • Wi-Fi connectivity

The first one is the VC-PX30 or the so-called Onkyo P3, which supports the Amazon Personal Assistant.

This interactive assistant allows you to give voice commands to the headset, such as controlling smart lighting, ordering food, setting alarms, activating Spotify playlists,…etc.

Onkyo introduces new hi-res network audio players and compact hi-fi system

The headset is designed in a cylindrical shape similar to Amazon Echo. This design makes it takes less space on the desktop and gives you the ability to put it wherever you want. It also can connect to the Internet via Wi-Fi and play music playlists across Spotify, Tidal, Qobuz, Deezer and Pandor as well as Amazon Prime.

You can also control your headset along with a set of compatible devices with the Onkyo Music Control app available on both iOS and Android.

Smart watch compatibility like Apple Watch and other Android Wear watches can also be used to control your operating platform.

This headset can also be connected to mobile phones via a 3.5mm cable, as well as connecting it to Hi-Fi systems.

Onkyo G3 Features

  • Smart Speaker
  • Google Personal Assistant
  • Built-in Chromecast

The second headset is the Onkyo G3. This headset is not very different from the above except that the personal assistant used is the Google Personal Assistant instead of the Amazon Assistant.

It can play music through both Google Play Music and Tuneln internet radio by saying “Ok Google” followed by the name of the song to play, or the name of the singer or album.

You can also stream from the the speaker to any other headset or Hi-Fi system using Google Chromecast built-in.

Speaking of availability, both speakers will be available in October with no announcement of the expected prices but are expected to range between 150 to 200 pounds sterling.
