Qualcomm announces Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1: Just Better!

We’ve already seen the current Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip with its great features and abilities at the heart of the most powerful android smartphones; the Samsung Galaxy S series, for example. But it looks like Qualcomm saw a lot more potential for that chipset, at least in the name, so they unveiled the new Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1. If you didn’t notice that “Plus” in this mouthy name, we guarantee that you will definitely feel the difference!

Based on a 4nm node from TSMC rather than Samsung, Qualcomm has some big promises with the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1, which is expected to deliver a 10% performance upgrade in the CPU and the GPU frequency, respectively, and at the same time, improving power efficiency by up to 30% in both the CPU and GPU.

In addition to that, the AI engine should have about 20% better performance per watt, and that is also the case for wireless modems. Overall, Qualcomm claims that the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 brings about a 15% improvement in power efficiency, which means you will be able to get more “time” on your phone playing games, streaming videos, or making calls; with the same amount of battery life!

With the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, Qualcomm seems to have solved many of the current SoC’s issues, especially in terms of battery usage and thermal throttling, and we may see the result soon in the upcoming weeks. The company says that the first devices to have the new chipset will be available starting next July.
