Shanling Announces Upcoming M6 Pro Player

Shanling has shared a couple of details of an upcoming portable music player – called the M6 Pro – which offers a number of upgrades over the regular M6 device.

M6 Pro Details

In terms of physical dimensions, the new M6 Pro is practically identical to the regular M6. The processor used is still the Snapdragon 430, and likewise the RAM has remained the same at 4GB as is the internal storage at 32GB. The display too is still the same nice 4.7-inch 720p IPS panel, but the chassis itself is ever so slightly wider at 71.5mm as opposed to the 71mm of the M6. It’s also picked up a little bit of extra weight as it tips the scales at 244g, whereas the M6 sits at 228g. The majority of the changes are to be found with the internal components.

For starters, the DAC setup has been upgraded from a dual AK4495SEQ DAC chip setup to a dual AK4497EQ configuration. The amplifier section has also undergone an overhaul and features a configuration which includes 2x OPA1662, 2x ADA4610, and 4x BUF634. These changes have resulted ina pretty substantial increase in available power output.

Where the regular M6 has to make do with a maximum of just 160mW and 350mW from its single-ended and balanced outputs respectively, the M6 Pro pushes these figures to 200mW for the single-ended and 600mW for the balanced outputs.
The signal-to-noise-ratio figures have also been improved from 118dB to 121dB for the single-ended output, and from 119dB to 123dB for the balanced outputs.

Pricing and Availability

Shanling has indicated in this Facebook post that the M6 Pro should become available in Q2 of 2020, and that it will fetch a premium over the current $499 retail price of the regular M6, but an exact figure is yet to be disclosed.
