Echo Show 5: Amazon’s smallest smart display yet

Very soon after Google announced its latest smart display Nest Hub Max, Amazon followed with its own new smart display Amazon Echo Show 5 which has a smaller screen and more privacy-friendly features than other smart displays by Amazon.

Amazon Echo Show 5 is more of an entry-level smart display with its 5.5-inch display, only slightly smaller than Google Nest Hub, the smallest display by Google. The new Amazon smart display features automatic screen brightness feature which will automatically adjust the screen based on the light in the room.

The smart display software is updated as well with more smart home controls on the screen allowing users to quickly access all the control over the connected smart devices around the house, including light bulbs, thermostats, etc. Of course, the center of it all is Amazon’s voice assistant Alexa which is still serving its original purpose of helping out with everyday tasks and questions but is about to get an update soon which will, through WikiHow support, offer quick “How to” instructions.

Most tech companies, especially those who are creating smart speakers and displays, are now more than ever paying a lot of attention to the privacy of its users. With this in mind, Amazon built in a camera into the new Echo Show but added a camera shutter for additional privacy. There are also two dedicated off buttons for the camera and the microphone. Moreover, a new Alexa “delete everything I said today” feature has been added that eliminates all audio recordings made during that day from Amazon servers.

The Echo Show 5 is available for presale at the moment as is going to be shipped to most of the countries in June. The price is going to be $90 in either Charcoal or Sandstone color option, but the adjustable magnetic stand is not included in the price and has to be purchased separately for $20.
