Amd acquires Nitero – a company develope wireless Virtual Reality & AR

AMD announced that it has acquired Nitero, a company known as developer of Wireless AR & VR technology without depending on cable connectivity.

According to AMD, Nitero’s top engineering team will join the company, which has full control now of intellectual property rights on Nitero’s developed technologies.

Solving Biggest VR Issue

The value of the takeover has not been formally disclosed, while the most important part in that Nitero has recently been working on the development of the 60Ghz wireless technology that, if successful, will change the virtual reality gaming experience.

This will solve a major problem facing virtual reality glasses that must be connected to pc via wired cable, Nitero want to change that by depending on wireless connectivity.

Mark Papermaster, the chief technology officer at AMD, spoke of the deal and said: “The problem of delivering virtual reality glasses to computers via cable is the biggest obstacle to the success of VR & AR Content.

The acquisition is focused on the Nitero solution to solve this problem and rely on wireless connectivity, that is a long-term investment from amd to develop advanced chips supporting virtual reality technologies and Augmented that will be offering a unique experience for the user.

Nitero did not talk much about the deal, while one of its speakers said: “They are delighted that they are part of AMD now to develop and support Wireless AR and virtual reality technologies.

It is not known if Nitero will work separately as it currently does or will work under AMD directly and both firms did not give further details about this.
