Apple will split iTunes into three different apps

It’s been almost two decades since the initial release of the iTunes app on Mac OS, and maybe it’s time for some change. After announcing the Apple TV app will be coming to Mac OS soon, there were a lot of discussions on whether other media apps will follow or not.

According to 9to5Mac, two Apple developers, Guilherme Rambo, and Steve Troughton-Smith have independently confirmed Apple’s plan to split up the Apple iTunes app into three separate apps. Music, Podcast, and TV. there is also a chance that Apple is working on a new design for its Books app.

Apple new Music, Podcast, and maybe Books will all join the promised redesigned Apple TV app on MacOS. The new Books App will be similar to the News app on MacOS, it will have a sidebar, and a narrower bar with tabs like Library, Book Store, and Audiobook Store.

All the new apps coming out iTunes will be made using Marzipan which is Apple’s new technology designed to make it easier for developers to port iOS apps into MacOS by making both platforms share a common codebase. There is no info if the new Books app will also use this technology, but giving that all the other apps are based on Marzipan, then most probably it the Books app will follow the same pattern.

The new apps will most likely appear in MacOS 10.15 update, but the question here, what would happen to iTunes? Will we be saying goodbye to iTunes with the new update? Well, not yet, according to 9to5Mac, the new MacOS will still have iTunes since Apple didn’t find a solution that would replace all iTunes features, so it makes sense to have iTunes for a while.
