Apple TV App Redesign Is Available Today In Over 100 Countries

During its event in March, Apple announced that the Apple TV app is going to be getting a complete redesign and now it is finally here. The new updated versions of iOS and tvOS are supposed to offer better support for the new Apple TV Channels as well as the upcoming Apple TV+ service and its original content.

Besides the Apple TV+, users will be able to subscribe to any paid Apple TV Channel such as HBO, Showtime, etc. directly from the Apple TV app within which all the content can be watched. Moreover, purchased or rented iTunes movies and shows will also be available through the new app. Apple TV Channels are expected with top video and audio quality but the specific details are not available yet for each subscription individually. Apple also offers a free one-week trial for those who want to try out for any subscription and is even connected with Family Sharing.

The interface of Apple TV app is available in two viewing options, first being the standard roll of movies and series that resembles Netflix, while the second viewing option includes full-screen card view that autoplays trailers while browsing. Any content can be downloaded and watched offline, including HBO Now and HBO Go which are otherwise not available for offline watching.

Still, the new Apple TV app is going to have some of the features seen before, including the Up Next section that will contain all the content that has been watched but not finished. There is also going to be a What to Watch section with Apple editor’s choice that will not necessarily contain only the content from subscribed channels but any other as well. There is also going to be the For You and Because You Watched section based on previously watched content with personalized suggestions.

There will be two more sections. First one is Sports which will offer scores from ongoing games and rankings of favorite teams. Second is a completely new Kids tab that is aimed for the youngest family members. In order to keep all content appropriate, anything in selection in the Kids tab is chosen by the Apple editors without algorithms involved. Anything that is not a Channel will take users to the third-party apps including the content of these two sections.

The update was officially released today for iOS, Apple TV and even compatible Samsung smart TVs but the interface is a bit more limited as it does not contain Hulu or Amazon Price Video apps. Apple TV app is available in over 100 countries around the world at the moment.
