 Design

These are on-ear closed back headphones with a compact foldable design that makes it easier to carry them around wherever you go

Out of the box

Beats Packaging has been always impressive and its still improving. The box unfolds to find the headphones packed inside a soft carrying that matches the colour of the headphones which is red in our case today. Along with the headphones you find a detachable inline-remote and mic cable that’s compatible with most smart phones.with a ninety degree 3.5mm jack. That allows you to easily switch between listening to music and receiving phones without having to take off the headphones. I consider having a detachable cable  to be a good feature to have always because at the end cables are the most sensitive part in headphones.

Style

No one can argue with the style and sense of fashion for Beats and the SOLO HD are no different, they come with a variety of colours that would satisfy all tastes, I’m reviewing the red now and it looks great, I loved the matt finish Beats are using for their new SOLO line.

Build quality

Beats have drastically improved the build quality of the SOLO HD in comparative to the previous model, the new durable plastic they used in manufacturing can withstand any type of use, headphones can be flattened, twisted or even bent backwards and they would stay intact, cable is rigid, tangle free and the ninety degree plug extends it’s life span.

Comfort

The headphones are extremely light wight, ear cushions are well padded with soft foam and they can be slightly tilted to suit your ear position for better fit, the headband is padded with exactly the right amount to comfortably support the headphones on your head and it hugs the head gently so it keep them securely on head without feeling and extra pressure.I found the SOLO HD pretty comfortable for long use.

 Supplied accessories

  • Carrying case (matching colour)
  • Inline-remote cable

 Sound

Beats Have worked on improving the sound of the Solo Hd from their predecessor, but I wish they have invested as much time and money on that as they do on marketing and design. At first when I listened to the new Solo HD I Liked it it felt alive, dynamic and you brought forward. they’re easy to drive and they produce high volume even without using any amp.The issue is after listening for quite some time and trying different varieties of music I started to feel irritated by the overemphasised Bass and the lack of some details.

Solo Hd sounded good when tried them with DJ music and R&B because these types of music are already recorded with a lot of bass and low frequency effect, but trying them with some instrumental music or vocal stuff they sound muddy not  that pleasant. even tried using a headphone Amp but that didn’t really made a big difference because it also amplified the already boosted bass.

Bass: They handle bass well, its deep punchy and strong but it can be overpowering and dominant on other frequencies.

Mid-range: All notes are brought forward but its missing definition and clarity

Treble: not that clear and overpowered by bass

Sound Stage and instruments separations: Narrow sound stage and not that impressive when it comes to instruments separations

Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • Improved Durable built quality
  • comfortable fit
  • Fashionable design
  • smart phone compatible

Cons:

  • Sound is overpowered by bass
  • lack of clarity and details

 Conclusion

It all comes to the purpose you wanna buy headphones for and whats more important to you, If design and fashion and cool look along with high boomy bass sound is a preference Solo HD are a nice choice, but if you are looking for a pure audio performance for you money’s value other alternatives can be considered.
