Campfire Audio Announces New IEMs

Campfire Audio is quite a well-known brand among audio circles, their $1300 Vega, $1100 Andromeda, and $700 Lyra II in particular.
So it seemed fitting that they would announce some new products at Head-Fi SoCal CanJam 2018.

The $199 Campfire Audio Comet

First up we have their new Comet – an entry-level offering which features a full-range single balanced armature driver used in conjunction with their TAEC (Tuned Acoustic Expansion Chamber™) technology. The Comet also features a black copper litz cable which has an inline mic and remote controls.

The Comet’s single BA is capable of delivering a frequency response from as low as 10Hz up until 19kHz, and has an impedance of 13.0-ohms and a sensitivity of 114dB/mw.

The $1299 Campfire Audio Atlas

However, the star of the show here will undoubtedly be the Atlas. No, we don’t get a bazillion BAs stuffed into a minute shell – instead they’ve gone for the simplicity of a single dynamic driver. A greater number of internal components has absolutely no direct connection with performance and quality, implementation is the key.At the heart of the Atlas lies an all-new A.D.L.C. (Amorphous Diamond-Like Carbon) diaphragm dynamic driver. The A.D.L.C. structure is the hybrid of diamond and graphite carbon. It is a non-crystalline diamond which is a material that has low density and high rigidity – important factors when considering diaphragm materials. We first saw this used in the Vega.
But, this time around the diaphragm measures 10mm in diameter (up from the 8.5mm driver used in the Vega). It’s no surprise, then, that Campfire Audio advertises the Atlas as being an upgrade over the Vega, and is to serve as their new flagship offering.

Regarding the specs for the Atlas – it’s impedance comes in slightly higher than that of the Comet at 19-ohm, but at a lower sensitivity too measuring in at 105 dB/mW. that means that the Atlas would require a more powerful amplifier (or volume setting). This is largely to be expected from a dynamic driver, though.
However, the frequency response range of the Atlas is quite impressive, being able to dig as deep as 5Hz and all the way up to 20kHz.

Availability

The Comet is available directly from Campfire Audio’s site right now (while stocks last), whereas the Atlas is on back-order and is expected to be shipped out on the 1st of May 2018.
