Disney+ Gets Off To A Very Rocky Start

Disney+ is officially available for the users, finally bringing Disney fans to access to all of the cinematic classics, but also some new, original content. After around two years of rumors and excitement, on the launch day, the service was unavailable for many users, and now, only two days later, Netflix already revealed a new project that will new original content to Disney’s main competitor.

Disney+ is officially available in the US, Canada, and the Netherlands, or if you are reading this after the 19th of November, in Australia and New Zealand too, while the UK, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain will get access to the service in March 2020. The service is available for a monthly fee of $6.99 and it allows you to watch 4 streams simultaneously in 4K resolution.

Despite the huge expectations, Disney+ website was unavailable for many users on the first day as the creators did not expect such a big turnout. Many had issues downloading the app or experienced timeouts including Disney cartoon character illustrations were frequent. Nevertheless, it managed to gain over 10 million subscribers on the first day alone, with more joining with each following day.

Two days after the launch, Netflix, the main competitor of the new video streaming service, announced a multi-year partnership with Nickelodeon which will result in new original TV shows and movies. The shows will be based on current beloved Nickelodeon characters, but also include some new ones that will tell their own original stories about themselves and their worlds. The content isn’t specified yet, but it will include movies such as “Klaus”, “Fast & Furious Spy Racers”, and even a SpongeBob Squarepants spinoff.

Disney+ started off pretty tough and it definitely won’t be easy for the new video streaming service to rise to the top, but the content that it provides does seem interesting for a large audience and potential subscribers. We are yet to see how will the Nickelodeon deal play out and will it actually offer a true competitor to the Disney content that will be growing quite a lot in the following years.
