Dolby Live is a “studio quality” recording app for iOS

Besides their amazing Atmos sound technology, Dolby is always working on improving the sound quality for everyone and trying to making it easier for the average user to enjoy the best sound quality ever. From the surrounding sound systems to their recently announced Dolby Dimension headphones. But now, the company is working on Dolby Live, a new iPhone app that would allow users to record studio quality recordings using only their iPhones.

Dolby Live which is also codenamed “234” is still a secret project of Dolby. The app was first spotted in a TechCrunch report. The app will allow users to cancel out background noise from their audio recordings, adjust bass and treble levels, as well as apply effect presets like “Amped,” “Bright,” “Thump,” and “Natural.”

The app has a polish intuitive design with a color gradient that is close to the Instagram logo colors with an easy to use UI. According to the app description “Dolby 234 automatically cleans up the sound, gives it tone and space, and finds the ideal loudness. It’s like having your own producer in your phone.”

While the app isn’t available publicly yet, there is a sign-up website where Dolby will select users to test the app on iOS TestFlight platform. There was a detailed Dolby 234 website but unfortunately, Dolby has shut down that website and replaced it with a simple tester sign-up form.

Such an app would be the perfect solution for many musicians who like to share their content on social media for example. Plus the opportunity for podcasters and other non-music audio creators. In the latter case, Dolby Live would be a huge competitor for other podcasting apps such as Anchor.
