Earphones, and how is it different from headphones??

Choosing a  headset is like choosing a car, where you can find what you prefer and choose what you like. And perhaps this example will explain it better for you. convincing someone who uses on-ear headphones to turn to in-ear earphones is like convincing a rally champion to use a normal economic car, this is definitely unlikely to happen. But if we want to understand the differences between the in-ear earphones, and the on-ear headphones, or the power they provide you with, and what are the strengths and weaknesses of each, then follow up this article where we’ll do that by comparing portability, noise isolation, comfortability and sound quality.

Portability

The first thing to say about in-ear earphones is that they are portable; because the speaker is very small and the rest of the components are not quite large and can be assembled and stored easily in your pocket. Headphones, no matter how small they are, can not compete with the in-ear earphones in terms of portability, travel and transportation, and here we have to say that in-ear earphones is the winner.

Noise isolation

The concept of noise-isolating headphones is a very important thing; without it, you will always have external noise that competes with your music. This leads to two things: for beginners, it’s dangerous, because you tend to increase the music volume whenever the outside environment is louder, and this can hurt your ears over time and is not a great solution, you’ll simply get a good and dynamic harmony by reducing external noise, not Increase the internal volume.

In-ear earphones have the ability to isolate external noise without any fancy algorithms or noise cancelling devices. It simply can block out the noise by correctly inserting the earphones into the ear canal, but not all earphones are equal in this. In fact, some earphones don’t fit the ear canal at all, which means they do not offer what I consider to be one of the biggest and most important features in-ear earphones. Take this into consideration when making a purchase decision next time.

Comfortability

The main reason people don’t usually like in-ear earphones is mostly comfortability. Some people have very sensitive ears, so anything that is inserted in their ears canals will probably cause some discomfort. But still, if you have tried on some cheap models of earphones, I will advise you to try something different, it’s unfair to judge all the earphones by what you have tried, you definitely should give them another chance.

There are also solutions such as foam ear pads (as opposed to the most common silicone ones) and even specially designed solutions that require an ear mould made by a doctor or an audiologist. Comfort varies from model to the other, while some people will argue that any in-ear headset will cause discomfort, I would suggest you try some different types of ear pads, it will totally change your opinion.

Sound quality

The sound quality of the in-ear earphones can be as good as those on the ear, but tend to be less ventilated, and often produce very little sound unless they are fully and correctly inserted inside your ears (and even after that it is difficult to get a good frequency response like the one in on-ear headphones), where the sound is injected directly into your ears and therefore any environmental sound effects created by having space around your ears are completely lost.

The most accurate sound that I have heard, has been through in-ear earphones as they can be specially designed to reproduce sound accurately without any concern for the external environment’s effects and because they can deliver such insulation and this excellent blocking of natural noise.

Conclusion

This article does not tell you which headset to buy, but I hope it helped you to understand what distinguishes each headset from the other, and why some people prefer one thing to another. Headphones are very private and everyone has their own preferences and needs, but do not just let your personal orientation guide your future decisions. The best thing you can do is to try them on -if that is possible- before buying them, so you know what’s right for you, or you can always follow our reviews and articles at Samma3a tech.
