Far Cry New Dawn Review – After The Apocalypse

After reviewing Far Cry 5, it won’t make sense if we didn’t take a look at Far Cry New Dawn, which is a spin-off of Far Cry 5 that was released back in 2018, telling us the next chapter of the game after the unexpected ending that shocked us all. As it is a spin-off, Far Cry New Dawn features the same map of the original game, but there have been so many changes that happened to the Far Cry 5 world, after all, we are visiting it back after 17 years. So, let’s check out what happened in Hope County since the last time we visited it and fought against a group of extremists that controlled everything. One more thing, if you haven’t played Far Cry 5 yet, then we should warn you, there are some spoilers ahead.

This new title from Ubisoft comes to tell us the next chapter of Far Cry 5, years after the nuclear blast that hit the state of Montana, where the events of the game take place. Although it’s the same map that you are probably familiar with, there are a lot of tweaks that have been made to go with the post-apocalyptic theme of the game.

Far Cry New Dawn Review – The Story, and the new world

The nuclear blast was an international disaster, it left cities, towns, and villages almost completely destroyed. But the storyline starts 17 years after the nuclear blast, when the immediate effects of the blast are nearly gone, after a long harsh nuclear winter which led to a phenomenon called “super flowering”, this means now we have a tremendous amount of colorful flowers that we can see all over the world of Far Cry New Dawn.

The local community in Hope County started to rebuild the cities and towns, but during these rebuilding projects, we see Father Joseph Seed who was the main villain in Far Cry 5, and now he is claiming that his prophecy was right and that the nuclear blast was indeed “the end of time”. He saw in the disaster a great beauty, and an opportunity for humanity to start again. After leaving all the technology of the old world that got completely destroyed, father Seed gathered new followers around him, mostly from hunters and gatherers, he was determined to rebuild the world in the way he sees fit.

After 17 years, the citizens of Hope County are struggling to survive. They leave their bunkers to see nature coming back to life. Nature didn’t change all that much after the blast, except the “super flowering” which gave the game a new colorful theme. Some people started forming self-sustaining communities, while others became outlaws taking theft, murder, and enslavement as the way to survive.

In the midst of all these events, a new character shows up, Tom Rush, a traveler to the United States, he is trying to help people to rebuild society. At the start of the game, you will be accompanied by Tom Rush to the main base camp in Hope County, Tom is portrayed as the savior who arrived to help people to protect themselves and rebuild their towns.

Meanwhile, on the east coast, the situation was more dangerous. In one of the cities, working with some other port workers, the twins Lou and Mickey transformed the port into a safe community using whatever they can get from the port’s containers. This gave them enough power to control the whole city, but that didn’t last long as their resources started to run out. This led them to create a gang known as the Highwaymen. The gang quickly spread across the US. (or what’s left of the US.) They were robbing cities and towns, and eventually, they found their way to the mountains and hills of Hope County, Montana.

Far Cry New Down starts where you have to plan the rebuilding of the county, but you still have to deal with father Seed, as well as all the members of the Highwaymen who are playing the role of villains and bandits that you need to fight in order to ensure the safety of Hope County.

Many Stories, Many Tasks

As the main character in the game, you will go on a trip searching for father Seed, asking him for help in your main battle against the twins and the Highwaymen. This will take you on an exciting, special journey. The radiation from the nuclear blast has affected nature in an amazing way. Now, flowers are the main plants in Hope County. Radiant, colorful flowers are everywhere, and in every possible color. Ubisoft has taken the world of Far Cry 5, and created a masterpiece out of it.

Since it’s the same world and map of Far Cry 5, you can still recognize many areas of the map. Some areas have changed completely, but other areas remain the same with some colorful tweaks. Many things are new though, the massive hard battles that you will have with some wild animals, and some small groups of enemies that want to take control of some areas, as well as the hallucinations that father Seed will put you through, all that will take you into a whole new world.

Far Cry New Dawn might share many things with the original Far Cry 5, but the vehicles and weapons are certainly not the same. Also, the game introduces us to so many new characters. In conclusion, Far Cry New Dawn offers a whole new experience as much as it completes the story of the original game. Although it’s not a main installment in the Far Cry series, it offers a similar experience.

The world has changed. You are on a difficult quest to get things back the way they were, or at least to help the people to rebuild their community. There are many challenges and difficulties on your way. You can fight, or just enjoy the amazing graphics and hunt some rare animals.
