FiiO Releases Play Store Patch for M11/M11 Pro/M15

When FiiO released the M11, one of the downsides was that the device, despite running an Android operating system, could not get access to the Google Play Store. This was, unfortunately, as a result of Google terminating GMS certification for Android 7.0 devices, along with Samsung’s reluctance to develop an SDK for later versions of Android for the Exynos 7872 chip used in the M11. This same limitation was still in place by the time their latest flagship – the M15 – came around because it too uses the Exynos 7872 chip. Thankfully, it seems the calls have been answered and FiiO announced today that there is now a fully-working firmware patch for both the M11 and M11 Pro as well as the M15 which will grant these devices access to the Google Play Store.

In FiiO’s announcement on Head-Fi they’ve outlined how to install the patch as well as additional info regarding GMS certification.

How to update: Copy the firmware package file to the internal memory or micro SD card; Open “Technical Support” app on the M11 / M11PRO / M15-> enter the “Firmware Update” menu-> select the firmware package file to upgrade.

Note: The Google Play partial library will prompt for updates after connecting to the Wifi for the first time. Restart it so that you could use it normally.

What can be done if receiving ‘the device is not certified’ in Google Play?

Currently, Google has closed the channel of GMS certification for Android 7.0 devices. So you will be prompted that the device is not certified. You can register your device by following the steps below:
(The deivce without certification could use Google Play normally still, but some apps with high security requirements could not be searched.)

1. Install the DeviceID.apk

2. Click it to get the ‘Google Service Framework’ and then copy it

3. Go to the following website and fill in the ID copied from step 2
