How to Enable Dark Mode on Facebook

During the second half of 2019, dark mode started getting released across all possible platforms and was an addition to numerous app updates. Either because you like the dark vibe, or because you prefer darker screens, we will guide you today how to enable dark mode on Facebook.

How to Enable Dark Mode on Facebook

On Desktop

In February 2020, Facebook started rolling out the dark theme for the desktop website. More and more users have reported the availability of the feature, but it still only works on the principle of the invite, meaning that only some Facebook users will be selected to test out the feature before it becomes widely available.

On Chrome

In case the update still didn’t reach you, there is a Chrome feature that allows you to achieve the same but in a slightly more complicated way.

  1. Click on the URL bar in Chrome and paste the following URL in order to open the Experiments (flags) page:

chrome://flags/#enable-force-dark

  1. “Force Dark Mode for Web Contents” will be highlighted. Instead of “default” set it at “enabled” from the dropdown menu.

Keep in mind that since this is not a Facebook feature, all other websites will also be in dark mode until you turn it back off to “disabled”.

On Android

Even though it is in active development, Facebook doesn’t have automatic dark mode feature on Android yet. Until now, one of the easiest ways to achieve this without installing additional or mock apps is by setting your Android device on dark mode, and then enabling dark mode in the browser too. This would turn all websites, including Facebook, darker, but would also mean that you won’t be using the Facebook app but the browser. Hopefully, the company will soon enable this feature with a simple toggle button.

On Apple devices

As mentioned, Facebook still did not find a solution for in-app activation of Facebook dark mode but there is still a pretty simple way how to enable dark mode of Facebook on all Apple devices. Similar to the case with Android, you have the option to enable dark mode on iPhone, iPad and Mac devices, which would show the whole OS and all websites in dark versions, including Facebook.
