iBasso Introduces Upcoming IEM – IT04

If you have been in this audiophile hobby for a while now, the name iBasso is certainly something you’ve heard before. They gave us the DX90, the DX100, the excellent DX80, and their current flagship DAP the DX200. However, they’ve also been busy with IEMs for a while now. Both the IT01 and IT03 are ery well-received products. Back in September 2017 they announced that they’re stepping things up once more, and were busy with a quad-hybrid IEM called the IT04. Well, it seems the wait is over as iBasso took to Head-Fi to announce that it will be released soon.

What’s So Special About the IT04?

Well, firstly, just look at it! There’s just something about wood that seems so incredibly well-suited for audio applications.

On the inside iBasso opted for a quad-hybrid setup, meaning that they’ve utilised 3 balanced armature drivers, as well as a dynamic driver. According to iBasso, the BAs used are “from the highest grade that Knowles produces”. These BAs consist of a tweeter, mid-tweeter, and mid-range driver, whereas the dynamic driver will be handling the bass frequencies. And speaking of the dynamic driver, iBasso created this driver entirely in-house, and it features a Graphene diaphragm. Pretty cool stuff.

As far as the specs are concerned, here’s the skinny:
The IT04 has a nice wide frequency response range, measuring from as low as 5Hz all the way to 40kHz. This ensures that it’ll be able to reproduce frequencies that extend far beyond the capability of human hearing. It has an impedance of 16-ohm and a sensitivity 110dB/mW, meaning that it should be pretty easy to drive (even from a smartphone).

It also features iBasso’s CB12 cable which has a 2.5mm TTRS balanced plug. But, fear not, an adapter is provided to enable you to use the IT04 with regular single-ended 3.5mm sources too.

Pricing and Availability

Unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be any clear indication of when the IT04 will be officially available yet, but iBasso have stated that the MSRP is $499. That’s a pretty penny, so it’ll be interesting to see how the IT04 performs when compared to other products in that price-range.
