Sonos One SL Speaker Won’t Have A Microphone

During IFA 2019, Sonos has revealed a new version of its popular Sonos One speaker. The new Sonos One SL is a lighter version, meaning that the design is pretty much the same as the original speaker, but it is lacking some of the features such as the voice controls.

The new One SL speaker is designed for those who want to have the internals and performance of Sonos One, but do not necessarily need the microphone, most likely within the Sonos System. In practice, the speaker can be very useful if you already have a Sonos device, such as Sonos Beam or Sonos Port with a voice assistant connected to the same Sonos System.

Even though Sonos is recently working on creating speakers with Alexa and Google Assistant, lack of any voice assistant on the Sonos One SL is the one biggest difference between the two speaker models. This also means that the speaker is missing a microphone on the top, which resulted in the only design difference: a bit adjusted arrangement of the controls at the top of the device.

Other than that, the internals are exactly the same meaning users can rely on the same connections and services as the original speaker. This includes AirPlay 2 support, Bluetooth Low Energy, and all adjustments through the Sonos app.

Sonos One SL is going to be available for sale starting on the 12th of September, sold for $179 which is around $20 less than the first Sonos One speaker.
