IFA 2019: Sonos Port Is The New Sonos Connect

Sonos has announced three new products at the IFA 2019 show, including Sonos One SL, a portable speaker Sonos Move and the successor of Sonos Connect. The new Sonos Port is a streaming add-on device with a better design, internals, and connectivity.

Sonos Port basically allows you to connect other audio equipment into a Sonos system and control it in the same manner through the Sonos app. Unfortunately, the device has neither Google Assistant nor Alexa built-in, but if a smart speaker is connected into the system you can control Port through its voice assistant. Moreover, it supports Apple AirPlay 2 allowing you to stream audio directly from iOS devices, as well as to ask Siri for Apple Music suggestions.

Compared to its predecessor Sonos Connect, Port has improved internals with an improved converter that improved the audio performance. It also allows users to connect a stereo or a receiver through coaxial and RCA inputs. When it comes to the design, Sonos Port is a small matte black square that can fit pretty much anywhere.

As a part of the Sonos system, Port adds multiple ways of streaming your favorite content, from music and podcasts, audiobooks and radio content. Bass and treble can be adjusted in order to optimize performance. This can be done for each speaker individually, meaning you can have specific adjustments for each room in the house.

Sonos Port is going to be available for a small circle of customers in limited quantities starting September 12th. It will be available for general public starting in January 2020, and its expected price is going to be $399.
