NBA 2K21 Review – First Look, Visuals, and Gameplay

NBA 2K21 is finally released on September 4th, and the new NBA game seems to offer one of the best gaming experiences so far. The game gives the feeling of a real basketball match, on a real a suitable court for the players. 2K Games offered us many different experiences over the years, and each release is usually better than the one before, with so many updates and improvements. NBA 2K21 is no different, we can easily notice some of the improvements in this new release, especially when it comes to dribbling and spacing between players on the court, which will give players a real and somewhat realistic feeling During the match. On the other hand, the game still looks a lot like its predecessor 2K20 as there aren’t that many new improvements which is a bit disappointing. So we are here to answer a simple question: is NBA 2K21 worth it?

NBA 2K21 Review – The visuals

When I first watched the announcement trailer for NBA 2K21, I honestly thought the visuals were taken from the previous edition until I saw the sweat on the player’s face. Another point is that the visuals in the video were taken from the PS5 platform, it doesn’t represent the actual visuals of the game of current-generation consoles. Of course, there are some improvements in the visuals, for example, some players make come with a new appearance like the all-time famous Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Also, the design of the new 2K Beach Neighborhood is quite impressive. But other than that, there aren’t that many changes when compared to the previous edition. There is no doubt that the power of new-generation consoles will help boost the visuals of the game, but we still don’t have enough information to evaluate that. Overall, if it’s the same quality of visuals we would have to wait until the next edition of the game.

All things aside, 2K kept up a high standard of visuals in the last few editions of the game, and perhaps the game has reached its limits when it comes to current consoles, and it’s not possible to present better visuals until the new generation of consoles arrives. It can still be disappointing for some players after the long wait for a new title without real changes. We can still see that the developers have paid a lot of attention to the most famous players like LeBron James among others. But once we are out of the circle of fame, the visuals of other players are not the best.

NBA 2K21 Review – Gameplay

When it comes to gameplay, there have been some serious changes and improvements. The movements in the games feel a lot smoother than before, the most noticeable improvement is dribbling, players have more control over the ball. 2K Games worked on fixing a few problems in the previous version of the game, as well as offering many new updates throughout our journey with NBA 2K over the years.

We can also notice the improvements in shooting techniques as it was a huge issue in previous versions of the game. Other than that, there aren’t that many changes or improvements in the NBA 2K21. The issue of the slow-mo replay of every shot is still there, although there have been so many complaints in the 2K community. Overall, there have been some serious improvements in the game, while it might not be enough right now, it certainly sets the base for more realistic and serious improvements in future versions of the NBA 2K series.

In conclusion, it looks like the visuals are not the main area that 2K Games is working on, after seeing all the new changes in NBA 2K21, we can see that the goal is to reach an ultimate level of realism when it comes to gameplay and controls.
