Netflix is testing new app feature with Instagram-like feed

Netflix is currently testing a new feature for its mobile app. The “Extras” feature is rolling out only to a select number of users at the moment during the testing phase and it includes a new feed resembling the Instagram feed with the new trailers, photos, and alerts about the upcoming shows, all in one place in the Netflix app.

According to the photos by Variety, the new “Extras” button is going to be added to the menu. The feed would allow users to scroll and see extra content and photos from their favorite shows, with the intention of helping fans connect with the shows better and even discover new ones they might like. Users can add any show from the feed to their list, share it with their friends or set a reminder for those shows that are yet to be released.

This is not the first time Netflix is trying out features that are a recognizable element of the Instagram app, with the last one being Stories-like video previews with the trailer of each show. A couple of months back, Netflix was also testing a shuffle mode feature that would play a random episode of a wanted show.

The testing phase is run on both Android and iOS devices for now. It is still not certain whether it will be available for all users as many features tested out by Netflix app users never become a part of a new update. Even if it is, we would still have to wait to see when exactly this might happen.
