Netflix Is Testing A New Shuffle Button

We have all been there, scrolling through Netflix content trying to figure out what to watch. Well, Netflix is trying to find a solution to this problem. The streaming giant is testing a new Shuffle button that will just play you something random. By hitting the Netflix Shuffle button, you will start a random TV show or film that you might enjoy.

This new feature was spotted by different users on Twitter, where the Shuffle button appeared under the personal account icon. This is not the first time Netflix tries something similar, the company was also testing a feature called “Play Something” which function similarly.

While the Netflix Shuffle button might look like it’s playing something completely random. There’s a high chance that it is relying on Netflix algorithms to pick something that the user might enjoy. It might play something from the “Because you watched ..” category which means it will be using your viewing history to choose something for you.

A Netflix spokesperson told Variety that the feature is only available on “TV devices” and only for a selected group of users. However, the spokesperson also said “The hope is to absolutely productize something” meaning that there are plans to roll it out globally.

Netflix is trying to save users hours of scrolling in search for something to watch, and just pick something for them which might produce the same result. But we still have questions about how random the Shuffle button will be, and will it prioritize Netflix Original content over other types of content on the platform?

Netflix is always testing new features and only a few of them make it to be official updates. So we just have to wait and see if the Shuffle button will roll out globally or not.
