OnePlus 8 & 8 Pro: Everything You Need To Know
Despite the world health crisis, OnePlus stayed on track of its planned YouTube live stream that was supposed to release the new smartphone line-up of the 2020-flagship. The company revealed the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro, as well as the new Bullets Wireless Z earbuds that offer 10 hours of playback time from just 10 minutes of charging. So, what are the features of the new OnePlus flagship? And what makes the Pro model so different? Let’s take a look.
OnePlus 8
Closely following the OnePlus 7T, the new OnePlus flagship did not come as a big surprise to anyone but there were a couple of features that are very much worth mentioning. The company has announced that the entire series is going to have 5G connectivity, including both the standard and Pro model, which is a big step towards the future as most of the big brands are preparing to welcome the new mobile connectivity through their flagships.
Zooming in on the features, OnePlus 8 carries the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset which complements the very solid base tier with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Unlike the 7T, we are looking again at a curved glass display with the punch-hole notch we are already used to as somewhat a standard from OnePlus. Of course, there is also the Warp Charge 30T fast charging that is almost becoming the necessity in this day and age. But, one of the biggest differences from the 7T model is the fact that we are going back to the vertical camera setup unlike the circular from last autumn. Check out the table below for more details on the specs.
OnePlus 8 price starts from $699 for the base model. It will be available in two quite unusual color choices: Glacial Green and Interstellar Glow. Both models are going to be available for sale on the 21st of April in Europe, or the 28th of April for those in the US.
OnePlus 8 Pro
OnePlus 8 Pro was definitely the highlight of the stream. The device is largely based on the standard model, but with a couple of upgraded features and, finally, an IP68 water resistance that was long-awaited. To everyone’s surprise, this was not the only feature that was seen on OnePlus devices for the first time, as there was also the wireless charging option.
Pro model features the same chipset as the standard one, but comes with upgrades in terms of display size and camera setup. Another big update was announced earlier this year as a collaboration between Samsung and OnePlus and has brought a 120Hz refresh rate display to the new OnePlus Pro devices. This means that the overall phone use including animations, navigation, as well as simple scrolling is expected to be much smoother. But, this might come at a cost of battery life. We are yet to see.
The last thing we want to bring up is the new camera setup. OnePlus 8 Pro features a 4-lens back camera setup including a main, ultra-wide, and telephoto lens, as well as a color filter camera which is supposed to support the lighting effects and the photography filters. OnePlus also mentioned improved night-time photography features. Read more about the details and specs in the table below.
The price of the Pro model starts at $899 for the base model. You will be able to choose between three color options: Onyx Black, Ultramarine Blue, and Glacial Green which is available with the standard model too. All models are going to be available for sale on the 21st of April in Europe, or the 28th of April for those in the US.
