Pixel 4 camera is probably going to have a telephoto lens

Beside the photo leak directly from Google, we can guess many features about the upcoming Pixel 4 that we are hoping to see during Google’s event in October. Based on the leak, Pixel 4 camera is going to have multiple rear cameras in a square housing, but now we got even more details about the new Pixel 4 camera revealed based on the code for the Google Camera insinuating that it will have a telephoto lens.

Rumor about the Google Pixel 4 camera originated from XDA-Developers who found mention of a rear telephoto lens camera in the code, as well as a list of camera sensors that are going to be apart of the Google Camera app. These include regular front-facing, wide-angle front-facing, and rear-facing options, as well as two never-seen-before Front_IR and Rear_Telephoto. Considering the photo teaser, a telephoto camera seems to be a very plausible choice for the next Pixel, and based on error message codes it appears it will be 16 MP. Moreover, the front-facing IR likely means that it would support face authentication features that was revealed previously in the Android Q beta.

For those who are not up to date, the photo in the tweet shows Pixel 4’s backside that features a square camera. Google has been known to put the best of the best cameras in the Pixel phones, and we can expect the same from the new Pixel 4 with its multiple rear cameras. There are also rumors by 9to5Google that there will be two front cameras, similar to the Pixel 3 front camera setup. At the same time, SlashLeaks revealed that Pixel 4 will have a hole-punch screen with the two front cameras being on the top right corner.

More details might be coming soon, but it does not seem probable that Google will reveal any official details before the official launch in October.
