Podcast Search is now available on Google

Earlier this year, At Google I/O 2019, the tech giant announced that audio information such as podcasts is going to become a first-class citizen across Google search. Now Google announced that Podcast search is available on Google.com and it’s coming soon to Google Assistant. 

Now, when you search for podcasts using Google Search, you will get playable podcast episodes in Search results in addition to web pages, images, news, and videos. Google will use more than the episode’s title and description in the search process, the search engine will show results based on what is being talked about in each episode, providing the most relevant search result in audio form.

According to Google, there are more than 2 million podcasts across the web, and it’s about time to start receiving audio results for search queries especially with the rising popularity of Google Assistant. 

Right now, users should write the word “podcast” in the search box in order to receive podcasts result, but Google says that soon you won’t need to write it, and podcasts results will show up with other forms of information on the results page.

If you choose an episode, you will be transferred to podcasts.google.com online so you can start listening, while on Android, clicking will open the Google Podcast app. 

Google said in their blog post that this new feature will be available for Google Assistant “later this year”. This means that users will be able to ask their Google Assistant about audio results for a certain topic and then choose between the most relevant podcast episodes that Google found. 

It was also mentioned that Google is working on a new tool that will help podcasts creators specify on which platform you can listen to their podcast, this will help users to discover podcasts that may be exclusively available by purchase or subscription.
