SoundCloud will allow DJs to mix songs live from its online library

DJs at any parties perform using their own music library that they download beforehand and mix from. SoundCloud wants to change that. Yesterday, at Amsterdam Dance Event, SoundCloud CEO Kerry Trainor announced that DJs will soon be able to mix and perform by streaming material from SoundCloud’s catalog within DJ software.

In order to fo that, SoundCloud is partnering with many companies that offer applications that DJs use to perform, companies like Traktor, Serato, Virtual DJ, DEX 3, Mixvibes, and DJuced / Hercules.

While the idea itself isn’t really new considering that DJay Pro 2 integrated the ability to DJ streamed songs from Spotify within a performance, this new integration with all these companies takes DJs performance to the next level.

The integration will enable creators to stream and mix SoundCloud’s massive catalog of original tracks, DJ sets, mixes, and more in high quality using a SoundCloud Go+ subscription and their favorite DJ application. The partnerships mark the first time DJs will have unlimited, immediate access to a unique catalog of this size, directly through professional DJ performance software.

“Until recently, digital workflows for DJs were limited to downloads and physical media, but streaming workflows are the future,” said Kerry Trainor, SoundCloud’s CEO. He continued “SoundCloud is committed to empowering creators with the best tools and resources to grow their careers, which is why we are excited to partner with these leading companies to help DJs take their workflow to the next level.”

This new feature will be running in 2019. While it seems to be an amazing feature to use, there are many risks that DJs would take if they decided to use in a live performance, slow WiFi connections, for example, might cause a huge problem.

According to SoundCloud press release, DJs will be able to use this feature only with SoundCloud Go+ subscription, meaning if you already have a SoundCloud a Pro or Pro Unlimited account you will need to add a Go+ subscription for $4.99 per month.
