Vivo introduces the Apex 2019 with 5G and a full display

Vivo recently announced its latest smartphone concept the Apex 2019. The Chinese smartphone company known for its sleek futuristic designs is making the move in a follow up to last year’s concept smartphone and the Vivo Nex, which had a pop-up selfie camera. Although the Apex 2019 is probably not gonna make it to the market as a consumer product, it does give us an idea about what Vivo has for us in the future when the Apex 2019 is introduced at Mobile World Congress next month.

Like most smartphones today, the Apex 2019 tries to expand the screen as much as possible with slim bezels and most surprisingly, no ports whatsoever. The Apex 2019 is a “super unibody” curved glass device that does not include a headphone jack or even a USB-C for charging, which is handled through a rear mounted magnetic connector that also allows for data transfer. No Vivo device has had traditional wireless charging and it does not look like Vivo is going to change that anytime soon.

On the inside, the Apex 2019 is rocking a Snapdragon 855 processor, a wapping 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The device is also Vivo’s first 5G smartphone, utilizing Qualcomm’s X50 5G modem. There have been no information about the cameras, of which there are two rear mounted, and no front facing camera. According to Vivo, it wants people to focus on other aspects of the Apex 2019 concept such as the in-display fingerprint sensor, which covers “almost the entire display” according to Vivo.

From what vivo is saying about the Apex 2019, we can’t wait to see it at Mobile World Congress next month. The device has a very interesting futuristic design that probably comes closest to the future ideal of a 5G port-less, bezel-less smartphone.
