WWDC 2020: How to watch? What to expect?

Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference known as WWDC is one of the biggest and most looked forward to tech events every year, but the current world health crisis has been a challenge the organizers had to find a way to overcome. Numerous events, concerts, and conferences all over the world have been canceled or postponed indefinitely, but some have found a way to bring their news to the world in a more efficient way, which is why WWDC 2020 is going to be an online-only event. Here is how you can watch and in general what you can expect from this year’s event.

How to watch WWDC 2020

Let’s first start with when the conference will take place. Based on previous years and experience with Apple, it is expected to take place in the first or second week of June which is still some months away. The exact date is still not confirmed but Apple is already working on ensuring safety for the attendees by shifting its annual conference to an online-only event.

The keynote is expected to be available to watch online through the Apple events website but as there is still quite enough time for Apple to have the official date and platform announcement. There is also the WWDC app compatible with iPhone, iPad and Apple TV devices which we can guess will be used this year too.

What to expect from WWDC 2020

iOS 14

Without a doubt, we are positive that Apple is going to introduce a new software for its smartphones at the WWDC 2020. Last year it was iOS 13 that marked the differentiation between iPad and iPhone software, allowing them to develop separately and focus on the improvement of the functionality of each device on its own. This year, we expect to see iOS 14 but thanks to the early test version, we already have a certain idea of the features that will be revealed which include a new Fitness app, update to the Messages app, as well as PencilKit feature relating to the use of Apple Pencil on the device.

iPadOS 14

Apple has made a huge step at WWDC 2019 when it separated iPad software and started developing it to suit the way iPads are generally used which brought many good features to all iPad users. This year, with iPadOS 14, we expect the positive trend to continue with more interesting additions to the software including advanced cursor support and tweaks which would make using a mouse on the tablet much more convenient.

MacOS

At the WWDC 2019, Apple announced its latest significant Mac software update, the macOS 10, known as macOS Catalina. For this year, we are unsure whether Apple will release yet another significant update and show us the macOS 11, or whether it will just release a tweak to the recent one which would probably be 10.16. Usually, by this time we already have a certain clue about the name that is related to a certain landmark in California, but there are no rumors yet regarding it.

Other announcement expected for WWDC 2020

Of course, we expect Apple to add aa few more announcements to the previously mentioned one. First and foremost, WatchOS 7 is expected to have significant changes and feature upgrades including sleep tracking, Infograph Pro and even potentially a blood oxygen detection feature. There might also be a tvOS update and perhaps a set-top box, but this is not yet confirmed. When it comes to other hardware announcements, rumours basically covered everything from new over-ear headphones, Macs and iPhones. We are excited to see how the keynote event unravels and everything Apple has in mind for its loyal users.
