WWE 2K Battlegrounds Review – Battle Royale style?

Battle Royale is everywhere, even when everyone thought the genre was nearing the end, new games came back to us with a different style, but I never expected WWE 2K Battlegrounds to be one of them. For the WWE 2K series, the last few years have been very hard, the recently launched titles of the series received bad ratings. WWE 2K20 in particular was a real disaster to the point that it had a rating of 3 out of 10.

To this extent, the WWE 2K series was facing the impossible, that game was so bad that it forced 2K Games to take a year off developing the WWE series. At the same time, the developers tried to work on new WWE content for 2021. So, until the release of the original version, we now have WWE 2K Battlegrounds from developing studio Saber Interactive.

WWE 2K Battlegrounds Review

There is a real battle in the gaming industry right now. A lot of the studios released disastrous titles, some of them might have had good ideas but the execution was really poor. In-ring action and good wrestler design is the foundation of wrestling games, this is where WWE 2K Battlegrounds made a mistake. Yes, we can argue that it is based on simplicity and easy control, but even that will not save it from poor implementation of “simplicity”, even Mario and Sonic games have better movement and character styles than those in WWE 2K Battlegrounds.

On a basic level, WWE 2K Battlegrounds definitely has more entertaining elements than other games of the WWE 2K series. One look at WWE 2K Battlegrounds is all you need to know that this year’s wrestling game is not the same as the previous games. Perhaps because of its visibly exaggerated characters, moves that defy the laws of physics, silly weapons like motorbikes and alive crocodiles, you can even get a guitar and smash over your opponent’s head.

WWE 2K Battlegrounds may have been seeking a different pace for the series in the same way that NBA 2K Playgrounds did for the NBA 2K series. Unfortunately, the comparison ends there. That’s because Playgrounds offered a fun alternative for basketball fans, while Battlegrounds didn’t offer that complete alternative, despite the similarities when it comes to moves and characters.

Having fun elements within this genre is highly expected, but after a while, these elements will start being repetitive. Such elements should be introduced gradually with each new title, offering a new fun experience every time. Perhaps if the characters’ movements were a bit less exaggerated, or if they were well mastered, WWE 2K Battlegrounds might have reached a good position within the genre. However, for the time being, you will probably play some battles before you get bored.

The first impression of the game is not that bad, there’s no repetition, and every battle is a new experience. It’s after a few battles that you will start anticipating every movement and start to feel the exaggeration. simply when I see some strange weapons in the game, flying movements and super punch, I thought that the developing studio tried to present a wrestling game based on the Battle Royale style. There is no problem having a bit of exaggeration in every game, but when the whole game is based on exaggeration, it’s a bit too much.

Campaign mode – a good addition

The game tells a story through the campaign mode. Overall, it’s a short campaign that you can enjoy in Battlegrounds. Told in comic book-style, the story focuses on Paul Heyman’s attempt to convince WWE owner Vince McMahon to start a new wrestling show in various locations around the country. The story is really entertaining due to some of the existing humor or dialogue that took place through the comics, it presented a kind of change from the traditional patterns we see in previous games and the style of storytelling.

During the campaign, you’ll play as various fictional wrestlers tailored to the game’s story, each trying to make their own mark on the WWE universe. This journey will take you back to the tower challenges that we had previously in Mortal Kombat games. During the campaign, you will engage in different matches against many WWE superstars. When you win, you get different rewards like upgrades to new locations or new characters. However, after finishing the campaign, the game has nothing left to offer you.

Conclusion

In general, WWE 2K Battlegrounds is somewhat entertaining, the various characters and supernatural movements have added a different flavor to the game. Although there are many exaggerations such as weapons that you can use. if you are a fan of wrestling games, you can still enjoy the game from time to time, perhaps playing with friends would make it more fun.
