Days Gone Review – When we lose control

No one was left, everyone turned into foraging; Some were foraging for food, but others were looking for people. This is what happened in Days Gone after the spread of a very dangerous virus that caused a genetic mutation in humans turning them into zombies. Just like in all zombie-like games, you are on a long journey to survive within a lawless world. A long war that players will fight while searching for resources for their survival and fighting huge crowds of humans infected with this virus.

Days Gone is a single-player game, just like other single-player games, it’s an experience that Sony is working on in all the exclusives it launches on the PS platform. The story and adventure that the single player will experience are all that developing studio SIE Bend has focused on.

Days Gone Review – Storyline

Once you look a little inside the game, you’ll discover that there is actually a lot going on within the Days Gone story; There is the main character Deacon’s quest to discover what really happened with his girlfriend, and a strange government conspiracy related to the spread of the virus, while you will get to know the different groups of people trying to live with the current situation, most of which will fail to a certain extent.

These stories are a variety of series that you will discover throughout the game journey, but the problem is that few of them will be interesting, especially in the zombie world, in which the stories have become similar after many games that tried to present the same style.

However, the game is not just another zombie game, the events of the game take place two years after the spread of the virus, at that point inflicted people were able to deal with the virus and develop their mental abilities, they became smarter in general. They are human beings Infected with a virus that makes them constantly nervous and thirsty for blood, you will only see them in groups and inside dark places due to the harmful rays of the sun.

It is a good change in this type of games, the idea of stupid zombies who are easily dealt with has become a bit old. In Days Gone, the developing studio was able to present the idea of Freakers who developed with the development of the virus until they had mental abilities with some distortions. They may be similar in the way they deal with you, but they will never be easy targets, they work in groups and go out only during the night.

The integration of many elements within the enemies that you will encounter within the game is always welcome, as the idea of simple and easy enemies has become boring. Days Gone story will not generally focus on searching for a cure for the virus or running away from zombies or even trying to save the world from this epidemic. It simply focuses on you, how can you survive in such a world.

Inside the game, you are the wandering Deacon who lived most of his life on his motorbike, he was a lover of bikes before the epidemic. Deacon’s character reminds us of Daryl from The Walking Dead which also featured zombies.

After his world got destroyed by the epidemic, Deacon is now in Oregon with his best friend Boozer from the former motorcycle gang, where the two survive to work as mercenaries. You and your only friend, Boozer, perform different tasks in exchange for rewards. You will move between the different survivor camps that are scattered across the map, each camp will have different missions for you to complete.

There is a lot of driving and searching for supplies, you will also need to sneak and fight different groups of zombies. There are many outposts of infected humans that you will try to conquer and take control of, most of the time there is no way to achieve your goal without fighting.

When it comes to combat and gameplay in Days Gone, I can say that the decision to have an “upgrade tree” is an ideal system for this type of game. The tree will give you the option to customize your character, you can work on the stamina (which determines to what extent You can run) and focus, which gives you the power to slow down time. These abilities that you can acquire or develop are generally a must-have addition to open-world adventure games.

Days Gone offered us a different experience in open-world games that focus on survival. Despite its constant attempts to present an exciting story and a different world, it was unable to bring all the stories scattered around the map together under one umbrella. At some point, you will feel the repetition that you can find in many other games, but of course, it’s a new experience and distinctive addition to Sony’s exclusives.
