YouTube Terms of Service Will Change Yet Again

Every once in a while, the biggest online services update their Terms of Service but rarely do they affect such a big portion of content creators as the latest Youtube Terms of Service do. Youtube has been marked lately with a period of struggle for many content creators, affecting both their content and income due to widespread demonetization of channels that prevents users from having paid ads within their videos, without actually explaining what is it exactly that gets them blacklisted. And the new ToS makes it even worse.

The latest Youtube Terms of Service is going to be effective on the 10th of December 2019, and it contains a clause that allows YouTube to terminate user access to the service if they see “that the provision of the Service to you is no longer commercially viable”. The service has reported that this clause is not new but was until now just one of the “unspoken” rules between them and the creators. Up to this point, Youtubers were already worried about getting demonetized for no apparent reason, but now this has found its way to the official ToS which poses even more worries to the content creators. Even though this clause is followed by the one which states that they will be notified with the reason for termination or suspension, many creators have complained that the reason noted for their termination so far did not seem logical or applicable for their content, making them unsure what is it exactly that led to a massive demonetization wave across the platform.

We are yet to see how well the introduction of the new YouTube Terms of Service clause reflects on the content creators and will make the issue even worse. Either way, there is a rocky path ahead for Youtubers.
