Audeze launches new headphone – Sine-DX

Audeze – the US manufacturer of audiophile legends like the LCD-2 (and LCD-3, LCD-4, LCD-X, LCD XC, Sine, iSine, etc. etc.)… has released a second on-ear headphone utilizing their proprietary planar-magnetic driver system. The Sine-DX. According to Audeze customers have been requesting an open back version of the very successful Sine on-ear headphone. A headphone that not only sounded great but also looked the part, as it was designed by the BMW (yes, the car maker) subsidiary DesignWorksUSA.

The Sine-DX is based on the closed back Sine but features grills in the earcups. Thanks to the open-back nature and slightly improved and redesigned drivers, it is supposed to sound more spacious with a wider and deeper soundstage that also offers more separation between instruments/performers.

Audeze also promises a “hugely deep and driving bass” and “gorgeous midrange”. That sets the expectations for this $600 US headphone quite high. Good news is that with 18 Ohm and 100dB sensitivity, these headphones can be easily driven from a smartphone without using extra amplifiers.
