Dolby Atmos Movies: September 2019

Dolby Atmos, one of the most famous surround sound technologies at the moment, was released in 2012 and since then, cinemas and home-theatre speakers started relying on it to bring a more live, 3D audio experience to its users. Having this in mind, many movie producers aim to create Atmos-compatible movies as this technology brings takes the viewers straight into the action of their favorite scenes. Starting this month, we are bringing you the list of most recent Dolby Atmos movies you can check out and test the limits of your home-theatre. 

It: Chapter Two

Release Date: 6th September

It: Chapter Two is the sequel of the popular supernatural horror film It released in 2017, both of which are based on the Stephen King’s novel from the late 80s. Starring Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, and Bill Hader, among others, it follows the story of the Losers Club 27 years after the first time they come against Pennywise the Dancing Clown, the character played by Bill Skarsgard. Losers Club members are now grown up and away from their homes, but when the neighbors start disappearing from their small town in Maine, they all come back together again for the final stand against the even more powerful Pennywise. 

Downton Abbey

Release Date: 20th September

Downton Abbey is a historical drama that follows up on the story of the Crawley family and their servants at the beginning of the 20th century in England, previously portrayed in the famous British TV series that shares its name. The movie stars some of the well-known actors from the series as well, including Maggie Smith, Michaelle Dockery, and Joanne Froggatt which continue their adventure together with the Earl and Countess of Grantham, played by Hugh Bonneville and Elizabeth McGovern, and their staff to prepare themselves from the most important day in their lives. The family gets ready to receive a royal visit by the King and Queen of England to their countryside home, but old relations and new threats do not keep the drama away. 

Ad Astra

Release Date: 20th September

Ad Astra is a thriller that shows the adventure of Roy McBride, played by Brad Pitt, across the universe and our solar system in order to find his missing father and the truth about his expedition to space three decades prior. The movie stars Liv Tyler, Ruth Negga and Tommy Lee Jones, who follow him on a journey to understand the threat to human existence on our planet, a journey on which he discovers hidden secrets about our place in the universe. 

Abominable

Release Date: 27th September 

Abominable is an animated adventure fantasy by DreamWorks Animation and Pearl Studio that stars Chloe Bennet, Tenzing Norgay Trainor and Albert Tsai among others. It follows the story of a teenage girl Yi who meets a young Yeti called Everest at her home in Shanghai and, together with her friends, try to return him back to his family at the highest point on Earth, while still trying to stay ahead of a man who is trying to capture him. 

Judy

Release Date: 27th September

The last of this month’s Dolby Atmos movies is Judy, a biographical drama about the life and career of the American singer and actress Judy Garland, famous for her role in the movie “The Wizard of Oz”. Set in 1969, the plot follows Judy, played by Renee Zellweger, as she comes to London for her performance at the Talk Of The Town nightclub, where she reunites with her friends and fans, but also meets her soon-to-be husband Mickey Deans, played by Finn Wittrock.
