Far Cry 5 Review - A Fight In Montana

Ubisoft offered us many exciting stories and environments with every release of their successful video game series Far Cry, and Far Cry 5 is no exception. With every new version of the game, Ubisoft introduces us to a new adventure, in a completely new, unique world, which is what made the game successful in the first place. In this article, we will review Far Cry 5, which is the latest main release in the series.

Although the game got a spin-off in 2019 titled Far Cry New Dawn which takes place after 17 years of the original timeline in Far Cry 5, where survivors of a nuclear disaster are trying to rebuild the society and get back to their normal life, the spinoff is an exciting journey based on the original story. So let’s get to it, and try to prevent the nuclear disaster throughout this review.

Far Cry 5 Review – The Story

The story takes place in a fictional timeline, in the American state of Montana which became a hotbed of corruption and criminality. The state is under the control of a terrorist group called “Project at Eden’s Gate” which is an extremist armed militia forcing the civilians to follow their beliefs, the main leader of the group is father “Joseph Seed” who has a goal to protect his followers, or “children” from the coming end and lead them to “Eden’s gate.” Your goal in the game is to fight this tourist organization and defeat them to save the civilians from their criminal acts.

This version of the game is somehow similar to previous versions in the series. We always have the cities or towns that are occupied by the enemy, and as the hero of the game, you will try and liberate these areas with the help of locals. However, the state of Montana is a nice twist, it might not be as exciting as a tropical island or the Himalayas, but Ubisoft managed to make the open-world of rural Montana full of surprises making a game full of possibilities. The world of Far Cry 5 includes mountains, valleys, forests, caves, and different water bodies like rivers and lakes. Another aspect is the different storyline. While the overall goal of the game is the same, Far Cry 5 features a unique storyline. All this makes Far Cry 5 as exciting as any other part of the series.

Ubisoft is allowing the player to customize their characters, they can choose between the gender, skin color, hairstyles, outfits even the motivation of the character within the storyline. This customization made Far Cry 5 even more unique when compared to other games in the series.

Far Cry 5 Review – Gameplay

If you are a Far Cry fan, then you might notice the change in gameplay in Far Cry 5. While the standard gameplay didn’t change, there are many other things that changed. There is a new gun-for-hire system that allows players to choose between nine different specialists that can offer assistance in the form of air support, sniper support, or even as animal buddies. There is also a co-op mode that allows you to play the whole storyline with a real-world friend creating even more possibilities in the game.

Ubisoft tried to improve the weapons in Far Cry 5, introducing a wide variety of modified and basic weapons, Including hand weapons such as baseball bats, sewage pipes, and pickaxes as well, which is a fairly new addition to the series. Even though the number of weapons in games is not important anymore, the changes in weaponry and the addition of different new weapons give the game its own identity.

When it comes to the map of the game, it’s a combination of small towns and vast remote areas. There are rivers and lakes that you can stop by and fish, or forests where you can search for wild animals. In general, Far Cry 5 is an open-world game that is full of distractions, you will find random enemies in remote places, or in towns that you haven’t captured yet. You are on a quest to free the entire Hope County, Montana.

Just like other Far Cry games, Far Cry 5 takes us into a world of vast open spaces, it is a nice restoration of the beautiful scenery that we see in all Far Cry games. But unlike other versions of the game that took place in unknown tropical islands in the Pacific Ocean or war-torn African countries, the fifth title of this series takes place in the fictional Hope County in the American state of Montana. With all the action in the game, it manages to tell a memorable story. This successful transition from remote exotic environments to an American state makes us more excited to see where the next title will take place.
