Google Workspace, Chat, and Meet is Available for Everyone
After the initial announcement during its Google I/O 2021 developer conference, Google is officially announcing that Google Workspace and Google Chat are available to anyone with a Google account. This means that there are over three billion new potential users to Google Workspace apps.
All Gmail users will now have the option to switch to a new Gmail layout where they will have Google apps shortcuts like Calendar, Keep, and Tasks on the right, and a new space for Google Chat, Rooms, and Meet on the left side of the screen. This will soon be integrated with the newly announced “Smart Canvas” which is designed to help users connect all their Google account activities in one place.
Google Workspace Individual
Google also announced a new subscription tier called “Google Workspace Individual”. The new tier will allow users to get additional premium Workspace tools and features without the need to set up their own domain, meaning they can use their normal Google account but receive all the premium features. This will come in handy for freelancers and self-employed people as they can get the maximum Workspace experience to help them run their business. Workspace Individual will cost $9.99 per month.

Google Workspace will also be getting its own web app in September which will make it easier for users to treat Google services like Gmail, Chat, and WorkSpace like normal desktop apps rather than just browser tabs.
In order to compete with Microsoft, Google is finally adding enterprise options to its Workspace bundles. Now, corporations can set up their own client-side encryption for data, as well as establish more trust rules for Drive files making it easier to use permissions and access certain files. This might give Google a real chance to compete with business communication apps and Microsoft’s Office apps.

Google has been improving its Docs apps for the past few years. The company also redesigned most of its apps’ logos to make them look more connected to each other. Google’s plan is to integrate all its apps together to form a solid digital workspace that users can get used to. Putting the most popular email service (Gmail) at the center of this plan, and offering the services for everyone for free will certainly attract more users.
It seems like Google has a solid plan to transform its app suite and attract more customers. But we will have to wait and see if the tech giant can explain all these changes to its wide user base around the world.
