Hidizs Announces New IEM – Dawnwood ST08
Getting involved with IEMs seems to be the new trend for companies whom predominantly manufacture portable music players and amplifiers. We’ve seen numerous in-ear headphones now from FiiO, and Hidizs are exploring this segment too. Where they started off the Seeds, their latest product is called the Dawnwood ST08.
What’s the Dawnwood ST08 All About?
You may very well have assumed from the name that the Dawnwood might feature a wood housing or some sort of wood inlay or other accent. Honestly, we’re not quite sure why they’ve picked this name. Anyhoo, what we get in terms of the housing is a CNC’d metal housings with a few extra plastic parts which is available in black, or either a blue/white colour combo, or a red/cream colour combo. The latter two almost look a bit like a Captain America vs Iron Man theme.
Internally the Dawnwood is equipped with a single 10mm dynamic drivers which has a Polymer composite titanium plated diaphragm which Hidizs says enables the Dawnwood to “offer broader bandwidth, fine detail at high frequencies, mellow sound at low frequencies and sweeter tones”.
Interestingly, although Hidizs designed the IEM to utilise a 0.78mm 2-pin removable cable, the actual connector that’s on the stock 1.2m (3.9ft) cable looks very different to that of a standard 2-pin connector. It gives the product a much more refined look, less “generic”. But it does look as though the housing can still accept a standard 2-pin connector should users want to swap out the cable for an aftermarket variant.
The Dawnwood ships in packing that looks exceptionally retro-inspired, and even comes with an envelope which contains all the literature.
Spec-wise the Dawnwood has an impedance of just 18-ohms and a sensitivity of 108dB/mW. This is sure to make it very portable friendly even for players like the FiiO M7 which can only offer relatively low levels of driving power.
