The Klipsch La Scala AL5 Is A Mini Klipschorn

Klipsch has a great history. The company was founded back in 1946 when it released its first flagship, the Klipschorn which is still in production until now. The Klipschorn has a smaller version which was first released back in 1963 and it remains until now. Klipsch La Scala AL5 brings back the glory and legacy of the La Scala speaker with up to date specification, and of course the same old retro design.

The Klipsch La Scala AL5 is a three-way, fully horn-loaded design features the same 15-inch bass driver that is available on the Klipschorn, with a new K-771 1 inch tweeter and a 2-inch midrange driver. All inside the 1-inch thick wood veneer cabinet that is designed specifically to separate the high frequencies from the low ones.

Being called a mini Klipschorn, La Scala AL5 has more or less the same design of the original flagship. The main 15-inch bass woofer uses a two-fold horn, the tweeter uses Klipsch’s Tractrix horn, while the midrange uses a large exceptional horn. Klipsch says the new speaker will deliver “sparkling, controlled highs, a smooth midrange” and bass that “reaches 45Hz, but does so with minimal distortion”.

The cabinetry is finished in book-matched wood veneers, so the top and bottom cabinets and the left/right speakers look like a truly matched set. The mid/high section is also supplied with a new magnetic grille, featuring a metal-mesh weave that exudes elegance, finished with the new ‘La Scala’ script logo.

The new Klipsch La Scala AL5 is available now in three different colors. Natural cherry, satin black ash and American walnut all are made to order in Hope, Arkansas, USA. The price tag matches the high-quality design and the legacy of Klipsch for £12,000 in the UK.
