New Echo Speakers Will Fit Just About Everyone
When the rumours described Amazon’s 2019 hardware event as “huge”, we could not even imagine that this would include 15 new products the company ended up revealing. Some products have a smaller upgrade such as the addition of the clock to the Echo Dot speaker, while there were other ones that came in as a total surprise, including the new Echo Loop smart ring that brings Alexa straight to your finger. Amazon Echo
Starting off with a classic, Amazon revealed the third generation of its most popular Amazon Echo smart speaker. As it was the case with previous generations, it offers the whole set of Alexa skills including the control of other smart home devices such as lights or thermostats, inquiries about daily schedule or events, music control and others. The biggest difference that came with the new Amazon Echo is in the internals as they now resemble those found in Echo Plus speaker including neodymium drivers for better performance. The speaker is currently available for $99 in four fabric design colors: black, gray, sandstone and blue.
Amazon Echo Dot with Clock
Following is the new generation of Echo Dot with the update that works on resolving one of the most popular inquiries from Alexa on Echo Dot speakers: “what time is it?”. The digital watch is now integrated into the speaker fabric, allowing you to see the time without actually having to ask your voice assistant, but can display the temperature outside as well. Even though the older model is still going to be available, the new Echo Dot speaker is already available for pre-order $59.
Amazon Echo Glow
Among the new Echo speakers is Echo Glow, a smart speaker intended specifically for the youngsters as a night light. The light can be easily changed either to a specific color, or it can flicker like a campfire. Kids can also use it with parental guidelines to ask Alexa for a bedtime story or other kids-oriented inquiries that the assistant offers. The speaker is available for pre-order $29, but it is unfortunately only available in the US at the moment.
Amazon Echo Studio
Among the new Echo Speakers is also the company’s first high-end smart speaker, Echo Studio. Described as “the most innovative speaker” by Amazon, it has some of the premium features that were not available until now: Sony 360 Reality Audio and Dolby Atmos compatibility and sound adaptation based on the position in the room, expected to directly compete with Apple’s HomePod or Sonos speakers. The speaker is available for pre-sale for $199 in black fabric colorway.
Amazon Echo Show 8
The company also announced the new Echo Show 8, its latest smart display. Obvious from the name, the display has an 8-inch screen and is the third size option, besides the 5-inch and 10-inch Amazon displays. Echo Show 8 will offer all of the same features as the other two, including all of the Alexa skills in addition to those that rely on the existence of screen. The company explained that Alexa is going to be the only assistant that is able to take out information from the recipes while being of your assistance, meaning you won’t have to run around while cooking to check the next step on the screen all the time. The smart display is available for $129 for pre-order.
Amazon Echo Flex
Finally, Amazon revealed its smallest Echo device yet, Echo Flex. It is designed to fit into any outlet in the house, plugging in directly into the power socket and giving you the assistance of Amazon Alexa in any corner of your home. It offers the standard Alexa skills and voice control over other smart home devices and appliances. It connects with other Echo devices around the house allowing you to broadcast a message in other rooms, and it even has a built-in USB port that allows you to charge your smartphone. The device is currently available for pre-order for $24.
