Spotify is rolling out the new Spotify Lite version

No matter how much you need many apps on your phone, it will eventually happen that you are out of storage and you have to compensate by choosing between your favorite apps. This is why many most popular apps have the smaller “Lite” version of their main apps that take up less space, allowing you to keep it on your phone even with low storage. And also work better with slower internet connection then their bigger counterparts. Following the footsteps of other popular apps such as Facebook, Messenger and Instagram, Spotify also released a smaller version of their main app: Spotify Lite.

The new Spotify Lite has only 15 MB, unlike the 100 MB the main Spotify app has, but there is a reason behind such a big decrease in size. Even though it has a similar interface, the Lite version is missing quite a few important features that made up the main app. Besides missing the “extreme quality playback” which is relatively understandable due to the main purpose of the app, there is also no offline playback version, or even the Spotify Connect that allowed you to play your favorite songs from a wireless audio devices. One of the biggest shocks is that even Premium users can’t select specific songs which is a very big reason many people turn to Spotify’s paid subscription.

The Spotify Lite is currently available on Google Play Store as a beta version, but we can expect many more updates to the app in the future that will hopefully bring our favorite features back.
