Sniper Elite 4 Review – A reincarnation of the series

The Sniper Elite series has always been a reincarnation of the ruins of WWII. The game was first released in 2005 by Rebellion Developments and continues to be one of the best sniping games until this moment. Finding a remote place with a great view of the battlefield, staring for a long time through the rifle scope, and taking enemies out one by one before they even realize you’re here is one of the exciting moments within this title. With the fourth installment of the series, Sniper Elite 4 is offering us one of the best WWII sniping games ever.

Sniper Elite 4 gives you control of Soldier Karl Fairburne, the sniper, and the main character of the series. This time, the game will take us on a war adventure to Italy to help the resistance forces against the fascist government supported by Nazi Germany. The story, which consists of 8 long missions, puts you in a large open area (the largest, most diverse environment of WWII games)  with many missions and objectives to complete. While each mission contains a few main tasks that must be completed, the map within each part of the story is full of secondary tasks that you can do, like kill another sniper, destroy ground cannons, or even leak secret documents from areas you can sneak into. In general, you will get some help from the Italian resistance on your way to finish your missions, which will make it a special journey.

Sniper Elite 4 Review – You should try it

In any war sniping game, navigation is a key skill that you need to master, playing Sniper Elite 4 will give the practice you need; this installment of the game allows Karl a new set of skills that help him navigate his way behind the enemies’ back. On the other hand, your character has his own unique moves more than ever before. Although it is not an Assassin’s Creed game, you are able to move around freely and use somewhat different buildings.

In general, the developing studio is trying to give more freedom to players of Sniper Elite 4. In previous installments, it was difficult and boring, you had a few buildings and moves to make, which reduced the character’s abilities. So it’s promising to see that this problem is being solved.

This was not the only problem that Sniper Elite 4 solved. In general, the game is now more appealing, it’s an open-world sniping WWII game that allows you to move freely around the map while performing your tasks. The main character now also has the ability to carry different weapons from machine guns to assault rifles in addition to snipers, grenades, and landmines. This will make it easier to defend yourself against enemies in case your cover is blown and they attack you.

The highlight here may be that Sniper Elite 4 doesn’t deviate a lot from earlier installments of the series, nor does it offer any deep additions that completely change the game. By focusing on the main characteristics of the game, developing studio Rebellion has been able to redraw the series well without affecting it too much, and if you have tried Sniper Elite and didn’t like it before, then Sniper Elite 4 may be your chance to enjoy such games.

Successes and failures

While all the war and fighting scenes are perfectly executed with astonishing graphics. When it comes to storytelling, Sniper Elite 4 has failed, especially in the boring dialogues, which most players will tend to skip. This will make the game a bit less enjoyable, but the adrenalin rush you get during battle will compensate for that.

Seeing torn skulls, brain shudder from within, and the effect of scattered shrapnel from the bullets, is the main hook on which Sniper Elite 4 has relied from the start, and with each new release, there are new scenes that can replay the experience in a fun way. The repetition here is not a bad thing, on the contrary, sometimes the repetition of those scenes combined with elaborate graphics is the best that the series offers us, inside Sniper Elite 4 you will find that things are not as they were before, the bullet and the way it travels from the rifle until it reached the target is now perfect.

All in all, Sniper Elite 4 is not your standard Sniper Elite game. The game is now updated to compete with other war games on the market while keeping the essence of the game. If you are into sniping games in general, then the new installment of Sniper Elite is a must-try game.
