Uncharted 4 Review – A Thief’s End

Perhaps Uncharted 4 will not redefine the gaming scene like the previous versions of the series, but it is still as special and incomparable with other games. The hero of the Uncharted series Nathan Drake goes on a thrilling journey that is without a doubt his greatest adventure so far. With this masterpiece that was launched exclusively on PlayStation 4, developing studio Naughty Dog once again raised the level of the challenge in the gaming industry, perhaps to give us a sneak peek on the adventures that are possible to experience in this virtual world.

The ground collapses under their feet, and arrows come from everywhere, they will be running away from different threats. But nothing can hold them back from their adventures. There is something magical in this world, and secrets that they must uncover even if it requires great risks. This is simply what you’ll face inside Uncharted 4, where you will not only control the characters but also experience the adventure for yourself.

Uncharted 4 Review – A long journey

Nathan Drake goes through different stories and adventures throughout the game, while they might not reach the same end, they are all similar in one way or another. For the characters of the game, it’s just another day, a different adventure. The stories usually start with a lost treasure that needs to be saved, Nathan then goes on in his travels seeking the lost treasure. But unlike Lara Croft who managed to turn the clock back, developer Naughty Dog is offering us a different experience in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and Nathan Drake was able to draw this experience perfectly.

It’s like the Uncharted series has been designed with Hollywood movies in mind, or at least that’s what you might feel playing this game; From wonderful cinematic scenes that suddenly transitions to brutal battles and explosions. Even the movement of Natan that makes him stand out as the main character, we can see the amount of time and effort that was put into making this game, presenting it to the players as an elaborate treasure hunt, with a distinctive narrative style.

Perhaps Uncharted 4 has the strongest storytelling in the series so far. Here you will not go after warlords seeking weapons of mass destruction, there are no sunken cities with your attempts to extract their secrets in a terrifying atmosphere, there is only a lost colony of ex-pirates, and a boat full of treasures. While your goal looks so straightforward, achieving your goal is not as easy as it seems.

This is all about the narration that Uncharted 4 puts you in, which will also feel very familiar to fans of the series. There is a lot of climbing, jumping, attempts to move large tree trunks out of the way so you can crawl through the narrow entrances. Although Nathan is equipped with a rope and hook at all times, the chances of him using it are very specific, but it will truly deliver the adventure that you are looking for.

These vast spaces within the game might seem discoverable, but Uncharted 4 is not an open-world game where you are free to wander everywhere. While pursuing your goal, you will not have enough time to go around and follow your curiosity, you need to run, climb, or crawl behind the enemies, the game will feel like a continuous movement towards the treasure. Keeping you occupied with excitement.

Graphics, and a great storyline

There is no other developer that makes you feel like you are watching a movie while controlling its events as Naughty Dog did. This is because Uncharted 4 was originally written as a movie, as it is currently being filmed. Within the game, there are a lot of different things that you can do, which helps to eliminate repetivity. The methods vary between climbing platforms and walls or sneaking behind enemies and fighting them, as the game is designed with new strategies and methods with each level of the story. It also integrates gameplay smoothly with cinematic scenes, which is what you’ll notice when running between rocks and jumping from high places.

Some details are well taken care of in Uncharted 4, to keep players immersed in the game. Loading times that will never feel bored even when you die in the game or transporting between different locations, which will feel like cinematic shots. The game simply looks polished and completely finished, despite having a few bugs.

A Thief End is the best game from the Uncharted series so far, I think most of the fans agree with me on that. It offers you a story that you wish it won’t end and an exciting adventure that you will remember. For a 2016 game, the graphics look quite up to date. The beautiful world that Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End has proven to be a great success for the developing studio, and a great experience for players.
