Sonos Move Release Date, Design & Specs Rumors

Some of the recent rumors about upcoming products were wrapped around the new Sonos speaker that was expected to be the company’s first portable Bluetooth speaker. Now, we see the first leaks that reveal the device almost completely, including the name: Sonos Move. The leak from WinFuture also contained images of the speaker intended for marketing and press purposes. Here is what you can expect from the upcoming Sonos portable speaker.

Sonos Move Design

Sonos Move design resembles other Sonos speakers with the black housing and a small white logo on the front side. The speaker grills go all around the speaker besides on the back where it has an indent with three buttons, including the power button, toggle switch between WiFi and Bluetooth, and a pairing button. The indent is designed so that it serves as a convenient handle making it easier to carry the speaker around. On the top, there are a few more touch controls for playback that look exactly like those of Sonos One speaker. On the backside, there is a USB-C charging port and two pins at the very bottom. Based on the marketing photos, it seems that the new Sonos speaker is going to have a charging dock that the device can be placed on for charging.

Sonos Move Internals

When it comes to other internal specs, there was not a lot revealed but as it will most probably be based on Sonos One internals, we expect performance to be at least as good as that. The speaker is expected to have WiFi capabilities besides the Bluetooth option, as well as the Bluetooth Low Energy for a quick and easy setup. It is expected that the speaker functions as a typical Bluetooth speaker when in Bluetooth mode, even though this might mean that it can’t be controlled through the Sonos app, and to function as other Sonos speakers when in WiFi mode. Even though it is not confirmed yet, but this probably means it can be grouped with other Sonos speaker and can be controlled through the app.

Other Sonos speakers feature an ethernet port which is why it is expected to be seen again, but the leaked images do not show the port. Moreover, it is expected that it features Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice control as it does have WiFi capabilities, but this feature is probably not going to work with Bluetooth. Other rumors also claimed that the speaker will support Apple AirPlay 2.

There are certain rumors that the new Sonos Move will have a feature called Auto Trueplay that was introduced first in 2015 on the Play:5. Trueplay allows users to tune the speaker according to the surrounding and the shape and position in the room in order to get the best performance possible. Unfortunately, the process can only be done using an iOS device. Auto Trueplay, on the other hand, is expected to use the built-in mics which would significantly simplify the already pretty simple process of tuning.

Release Date And Price

Based on the photo leaks, we can conclude that the release date of the SonosMove is not that far from now and the official details will be coming soon, as soon as 26-27 August when they have scheduled a press event. In case this does not happen, there is still the IFA 2019 in the first week of September when we might be seeing Sonos’ first Bluetooth portable speaker.

At this point, there is not much revealed when it comes to the price but if we look at Play:1 and Sonos One which is $149 and $199 respectively, the speaker is most likely going to be around the $200 mark.
